I built Cotypist to do less than that, on purpose: complete the next word or two, then hand the keyboard back. What you end up writing still sounds like you. Oh, and you don't need to write yet another prompt for it to work.
• Quietly an accessibility tool: I built Cotypist to make typing faster. What I didn’t expect is who would write in. Non-native English speakers. People typing with dyslexia, ADHD, hand arthritis, or one hand. And (this still blows my mind) two people who type through Neuralink brain implants.
• The disappearance angle: The thing people tell me most often isn’t about how Cotypist works. It’s about what happens when they sit down at a Mac without it: the typing feels broken. Cotypist is the kind of tool you don’t notice until it isn’t there.
• The privacy story: Cotypist runs entirely on your own Mac. No cloud calls, no API, no telemetry on what you type. I built it this way because what people write is some of the most personal stuff they generate, and I wasn’t going to sit that on someone else’s server. It even works on a plane!
• What Apple Silicon can do: Cotypist runs a 3 GB Gemma model locally on your Mac and completes your next words in real time, in every app, with no server in the loop. Five years ago this wasn’t possible on consumer hardware. Today it runs in the background with battery to spare.
• Mac craft, not Valley hype: I’m a solo developer in Munich. The other app I make is Timing, a Mac productivity app that’s been around for a decade. Cotypist isn’t venture-backed and there’s no team behind me.

Cotypist works on any Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs are not supported.
